Summer has come and gone but I’m not complaining as autumn is my favourites season for makeup. I love berry lips and smokey eyes and have my eye on one palette already. But first, let me tell you what I discovered during the month of August.
I’m not a huge Miley Cyrus fan but I think everyone is a Mac lipstick fan. The packaging, the smell and the product itself are always great. For those low maintenance makeup days, sitting in the park in the sun, all you need is a lick of mascara, your favourite foundation and this lipstick will brighten up your whole face. The lipstick is a beautiful vibrant hot pink that will get noticed, but for those of you that aren’t used to wearing very bright lips, I would still recommend this shade as it can be muted down with a light pink or nude gloss, which I did most days! As always, the Mac Viva Glam formulation is creamy and pigmented, but be warned, this will stain your lips. I can’t wait to get my hands on the matching gloss now.
The warm weather and sun can play havoc with your lips. As well as exfoliating them, a good moisturiser is essential. This month I have been using the 8 hour lip cream from Elizabeth Arden religiously. It’s the best I’ve ever come across for hydration that lasts as well as including SPF which is very important as most people forget or don’t even realise that they need to protect their lips from burning. Apply it like any other lip-balm (I like to smother my lips in it) before putting on lipstick and even the most matte lipsticks go on smoothly. It’s definitely a splurge product at £20, but in my opinion it’s well worth it.
For the first time in my life, this month I bought blotting papers! There are definitely cheaper alternatives on the market but I bought Shiseido ones. It was a complete impulse buy after catching a glimpse of my not so fresh looking face while walking around House of Fraser. The last thing you want to do is keep packing on more powder onto your face to keep yourself matte. The product builds up and you end up looking cakey and chalky. To get rid of unwanted shine, I now use blotting papers. These ones are excellent as they remove the excess oil completely and leave my makeup perfectly intact. I’ll never be without them in my handbag again. Plus they come in this handy little wallet!
My ever expanding blush collection has something new. Bourjois have come out with a range of gel blushes and they are fabulous. After the novelty of pumping your blush out of a little pink container wears off, you will still love this product. I bought 2 colours: Pink Twice and Cocoricorial. These blend out beautifully, I use a stippling brush to do this but your fingers could do the job just as well. I must also mention the staying power – they really do last, as the name would suggest, so if you’re on the market for some nice new cheek colours, definitely give these a go.
That’s all folks. Until next time 🙂
